Liv Heym, violin

Liv Heym, violin

Liv Heym, whose playing has been described as "elegant and sensual, stylishly wild" by the New Yorker, performs on both the modern and the baroque violin. A native of Berlin, Germany, Liv studied Violin and Chamber Music with Heinz Dinter, Ulrike-Anima Mathé and Daniel Phillips. Chamber Music lessons with Eberhard Feltz were an important influence during her studies as well as Masterclasses with András Schiff. Liv holds degrees in music education and performance on modern violin from the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and a Master in Historical Performance from the Juilliard School as a student of Monica Huggett and Cynthia Roberts.

As of 2011, Liv joined the European Union Baroque Orchestra as member as well as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Apprenticeship Scheme working under the direction of Simon Rattle, Laurence Cummings and Roger Norrington. Previous seasons include performances and recordings with Trinity Baroque Orchestra under Robert Mealy and Julian Wachner and a tour to Moscow with the Mark Morris Dance Group.

Liv has performed with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra, Young German Philharmonic and Jeune Orchestre Atlantique under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Thomas Adès, Philippe Herreweghe, Jos van Immerseel, Reinbert de Leeuw and others. She is member of several New York based baroque ensembles such as The Clarion Orchestra and founding member of Waits Trio, Uncommon Temperament and Siren Baroque. Equally fascinated by contemporary music, Liv performed amongst others with new music ensemble Lunatics at Large during their 2010 season. Intrigued by the possibilities of interaction between different art forms she is currently creating her own concert series "Music in Dialogue" in New York City.
