Gaële
Le Roi, soprano
Renowned
for her astonishing stage presence, with which she delights public
and critics alike (most recently as Jemmy in Rossinis Guillame
Tell at Opéra National de Paris), Gaële Le Roi has firmly
established herself as a leading talent of the young generation
of French singers. Following her professional debut at the
Opéra National de Lyon, Ms. Le Roi was quickly remarked upon
by Peter Sellars and asked to sing Yniold / Pelleas et Melisande
à lOpéra dAmsterdam (Simon Rattle) and
at the Los Angeles Music Center (Esa-Pekka Salonen).
She then went on to sing this same rôle at the Teatro Della
La Fenice, Venice in a production from Pier-Luigi Pizzi, as well
as at the Opéra National de Paris in Bob Wilsons production.
In 2002 Ms. Le Roi sang to great success her first Mélisande
à lOpéra de Massy in a production from Yannis
Kokkos.
In recent years, Gaële Le Roi has been regularly invited to
the Opéra de Montpellier (LEpouse Injustement Soupconnee,
Jenufa, Hippolyte et Aricie, Viva la Mamma by Donizetti), to De
Nederlandse Opera (Jenufa, Incoronazione di Poppea) and the Opéra
National de Paris (Die Zauberflöte, LEnfant et les Sortileges),
to Le Théâtre des Champs Elysées (Die Zauberflöte),
the Salzburg Festival (Les Troyens, Jenufa, Don Carlos) and the
Brooklyn Academy of Music (Incoronazione di Poppea).
In
concert, Gaële Le Roi performs regularly under the direction
of conductors such as Michel Corboz, Edmon Colomer, Rinaldo Alessandrini,
Jean-Claude Malgoire, Jacques Mercier, Arie van Beck, Marek Janowsk,
James Conlon, Louis Langrée, Fabio Luisi, Christophe Rousset,
Myung-Whun Chung, Michel Plasson and by the following orchestras,
lOrchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, lOrchestre
de la Fondation Gulbenkian, Academia Santa Cecilia, LOrchestre
de la Monnaie de Bruxelles. Recent concert projects have included
the role of Constance from Les Dialogues Des Carmelites with LOrchestre
National du Capitole de Toulouse.
During the season 2002-2003, Gaële Le Roi returned to lOpéra
National de Paris for Martinus Juliette and Jemmy in Rossinis
Guillaume Tell. She has been invited to Washington for the
title role in Hippolyte et Aricie with lOpera Lafayette, where
shell return in May 2004 to sing Clarice in Il Mondo della
Luna, Shell appear also at the Drottningholm Festival this
summer singing Oberto / Alcina under the direction of Christophe
Rousset.
In future seasons she returns to the Opéra National de Paris
to sing Zaïre / Les Indes Galantes (William Christie) and Papagena
in Die Zauberflöte (2003-2005) and again in the 2004/2005 season
for Boris Godounov and Janaceks From the House of the Dead,
LEmpio Punito (Melani) in Montpelliers Festival
of Radio France,Oedipe (Enescu) in CagliarisOpera. In 2005/2006
shell sing in Juliette ou la Clef des Songes (Martinù)
in Opera Garnier.
Her recordings include: Les Brigands of Offenbach with John-Eliot
Gardiner (EMI), Faurés Requiem with Emmanuel Krivine
(DENON), La Mort dOphélie by Berlioz (HARMONIA MUNDI)
as well as Le Martyre de Saint-Sébastien with lOrchestre
National dIle de France et Jacques Mercier (BMG), and
a selection of Bach Cantatas (ARION).
As a result of her remarkable acting talent, Gaële Le Roi has
also been invited to play several roles for films and television,
notably: Mon Cher Sujet by Anne-Marie Miéville (Prix de la
Jeunesse au Festival de Cannes 1988, Prix du Festival de Belfort
et Prix dInterprétation au Festival de Digne les bains)
and Incognito (Alain Bergala), a co-production between La Sept and
France 3.
