Sherezade Panthaki, soprano
Soprano Sherezade Panthaki has been praised by critics as “luminous” and “exquisitely supple” (The New York Times), "a radiant voiced stand-out" (The Washington Post), "full of light" (The Goldberg International Magazine, UK), and is in constant demand as an opera and oratorio soloist.
In 2011 she graduated with an Artist Diploma from Yale University's Institute of Sacred Music where she was soprano soloist with the Yale Schola Cantorum under the direction of Maestro Masaaki Suzuki, and the winner of several prestigious awards from the Yale School of Music including its Career Advancement Prize.
Highlights of her recent and upcoming performance seasons include Bach's Mass in B minor with Nicholas McGegan and Philharmonia Baroque (San Francisco), Handel's Solomon with the Netherlands Radio Orchestra (Amsterdam), Bach's St. Matthew Passion (New York City, Rome, Milan, Florence) and Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 (New York City) with Masaaki Suzuki, Poulenc's Stabat mater with Simon Carrington and the Yale Camerata, a solo concert of virtuoso Bach, Handel and Vivaldi cantatas with trumpeter John Thiessen and the REBEL Baroque Orchestra (Westport), Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Orchestra of St. Luke's (New York City), Bach's St. John Passion with Chatham Baroque (Pittsburgh), Bach Christmas cantatas with Steven Fox and the Clarion Music Society (New York City), a recording of Handel's Israel in Egypt with the Choir and Orchestra of Trinity Church Wall Street, and Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Bach Society of St. Louis.
Ms. Panthaki has appeared in multiple leading/ title roles with the American Opera Theater (Washington D.C), the Bloomington Early Music Festival Opera (Indiana), and is the winner of several Young Artist awards, including the Adams Fellowship at the Carmel Bach Festival. She has performed solo repertoire spanning from Hildegard von Bingen to Stravinsky with the Portland Baroque Orchestra (Oregon), the COGE Choir and Orchestra (Paris), the Carmel Bach Festival (California), the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, the Iowa Bach Festival, Ensemble Voltaire (Indianapolis), Ars Musica (Chicago), the Catacoustic Consort (Cincinnati), the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, the Tafelmusik Baroque Institute (Toronto), the Boston Early Music Festival (fringe), the Bach Society of St. Louis, the Amherst Early Music Festival (Vermont), and the Madison Early Music Festival (Wisconsin).
As a frequent performer with the Boston-based La Donna Musicale, Ms. Panthaki has championed the works of women Baroque composers in concert at numerous international festivals, including the Utrecht Early Music Festival (Holland), the Murten Classics Festival (Switzerland), and the Banco de la Republica series (Colombia).
She is a founding member of the acclaimed early music vocal quartet Gravitación, with whom she has recorded Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque repertory; her discography also includes recordings of 17th and 18th century music by women composers with La Donna Musicale. |
