Pedja Muzijevic, piano

One of the most versatile of artists, Bosnian-born Pedja Muzijevic has been widely praised for his interpretations of the standard literature and for his imaginative programming. He has toured extensively as soloist with orchestras and as a recitalist throughout eastern and western Europe, Great Britain, Canada, the United States, South America and Asia. His artistic curiosity has led him to explore both the music of the 18th and 19th centuries on period instruments and the music of such contemporary composers as Knussen, Carter, Cage, Corigliano, Ades, Wuorinen, and many others.

Recent and upcoming performances for Pedja Muzijevic include the Milwaukee Symphony, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, Dresden Philharmonic, Shinsei Nihon Orchestra in Tokyo, Orquesta Sinfonica in Montevideo, Zagreb Philharmonic, Boston Pops, Santa Fe Pro Musica, Napa Valley Symphony and the Richmond (VA) Symphony among others. He has played solo recitals at Alice Tully Hall in New York, Casals Hall and Bunke Kaikan in Tokyo, Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, Da Camera of Houston, The Frick Collection in New York, Arizona Friends of Chamber Music in Tucson, the Aldeburgh Festival, Great Britain, and many others.

His many festival engagements encompass, among others, performances at Tanglewood, Mostly Mozart Festival at Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Newport Festival, OK Mozart Festival, Aix-en-Provence, Dubrovnik, Merano and Bratislava.

Mr. Muzijevic's many chamber music performances include Bargemusic in New York, appearances on the New York Philharmonic's Schubert Festival at Avery Fisher Hall as well as their chamber music series at Merkin Hall, the New Jersey Symphony Tchaikovsky Festival, the Brooklyn Philharmonic Csardas Weekend, Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, Great Performers Series at Lincoln Center in New York, and with the Boston Chamber Players. He has also selected and performed music for Martha Clarke's "An Uncertain Hour", commissioned by the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Netherlands Dance Theatre; he has been the featured pianist for Lincoln Center's premiere of Winterreise, and he has toured worldwide for the White Oak Dance Project with Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Mr. Muzijevic's recording of works by Schumann (performed on period instruments) is available on the Helicon label. Other recordings include Mozart and Beethoven Quintets for Piano and Woodwinds (Kleos Classics) and the New York Legends Series with principals of the New York Philharmonic (Cala Records).

Pedja Muzijevic made his New York recital debut in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall as a recipient of the Juilliard School's coveted William Petschek Award. His many honors include top prize in the Busoni International Piano Competition and a finalist diploma in the Naumburg International Piano Competition, as well as special prizes of the Chopin Society, Warsaw, and the Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.

Pedja Muzijevic graduated from the Academy of Music in Zagreb, where he received the Croatian Music Institute Award for best recital. He continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Juilliard School, where he received his Master of Music degree.
