Anne Trout, bassist, has performed, toured and recorded with most of the prominent early ensembles in North America for many years. Often praised for her stylish and spirited continuo playing, she is especially proud of her work with the oldest performing organizations in the US devoted to music of the baroque and classical periods. She was an active member of the two-hundred-year-old Handel & Haydn Society during the Hogwood decades and a longtime member of Aston Magna which was founded almost 50 years ago.

With these and many other ensembles over the years she has appeared in a great variety of important venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, New York’s Lincoln Center, Boston’s Symphony and Jordan Halls, Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt, Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington DC, Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, Disney Hall in Los Angeles among many others.

In recent years Anne acquired and supervised the restoration of the five string ‘Delmas’ Maggini, one of only three such violones extant by the legendary maker Giovanni Paolo Maggini. Its expanded tuning allows for more intimate repertoire and collaborations. In addition to regular appearances as a guest with Four Nations, other treasured ongoing affiliations include Green Mountain Project in New York, Ashmont Bach based in inner city Boston and Blue Hill Bach in coastal Maine.

Other recent engagements of note include performances with the distinctive and rising ten-year-old Baroque Orchestra of Colorado led by Cynthia Freivogel and Schuetz Conference (“Thirty Years of War”) concerts directed by Joshua Rifkin at Boston University. Anne is baroque consultant for L’Archet, an eastern Pennsylvania concert series now in its sixth successful year. A native of southeastern Pennsylvania, she returns there regularly for concerts with organizations such as Tempesta di Mare and the Bach Choir of Bethlehem.

Anne serves on the faculties of Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge and Boston College. She is a sought after presenter and clinician in performance practice seminars throughout the US.
